Almost there..

The other night, I wrote a blog post, added it to drafts…and scrapped the whole thing.

There is something peculiar about the feeling as a release date approaches. As an avid fan of pre-ordering, the final weeks or days for me are mostly spent waiting; an exhausting, agonizing wait with frequent trips to the mail box, hoping that today….

As an author, the same period of time looks a little bit different.

I can’t really recall how I felt before the releases of SNOW and Jaded. I think… With SNOW it was all so sudden, I didn’t have time to prepare. While Jaded was more like finally.

Up until a couple of days ago, I didn’t think much of the release at all. Maybe I’m getting used to doing these kind of events, or maybe it’s just because I am so busy these days, I hardly have time to sit down and think; I mostly find myself running around frantically trying to cram more hours into my day.

But when I sat down and tried to think and feel.. There’s definitely something there.
It’s anticipation, and admittedly, some nerves.
The latter didn’t exactly decrease when I stumbled across a rather cross review. As an author I am prepared for all kinds of opinions; and all books are not for all people. Still, that’s not to say it didn’t hurt. That said, it’s something that’s probably unavoidable, even though I wish I hadn’t come across it only days before a new release.

I’m excited to finally share Love Addict with you, but at the same time it’s kind of terrifying.
It always is.
There’s something really strange about having kept something to yourself for so long, something that has been yours alone for so long, and then allowing people to parttake in it; to read it and form an opinion on it.

I’m excited, but also nervous. Maybe because Love Addict is so different from the other two novels?
But it would be. All my novels are shaped by the characters that parttake in the story. Although Love Addict has the same universe and characters as Jaded, it’s a vastly different story, because Aki and Miya are such different people. The characters’ personalities and traits ultimately shape the narrative and the story.
I find that rather fascinating.

Love Addict was really fun to work on, compared to the struggles I had with Jaded and Aki’s complex nature. Miya is simpler and way more honest, so it was really relieving to write this story.
Hopefully, you will enjoy reading it as well!

Part of me is terrified to let this project go and see it in other people’s hands, but I know how great this is all going to feel tomorrow, when the release event commences.
There’s definitely a peculiar feeling on the night before a release, but I don’t think I’d want to miss out on it. Not at all.

If you’re in Trondheim, don’t hesitate to drop by Outland! I’ll be there signing books from 12:00 pm!
And if you’re on time, you can leave with a bunch of these sexy freebies as well:

Yaoi 801 with grand announcement!

Right, so I forgot I was still trying to do this whole blog thing…

This weekend was Torucon, and you’d have to be living beneath a rock not to actually know this, or to have missed that I am part of the amazing crew at this great convention.
This year, I also doubled as a “guest” (quote marks on that because I still slaved around all weekend, like a proper Jarl), and hosted a panel titled Yaoi 801.

Considering the circumstances, my Kumagoro was a natural prop for the weekend

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

First off: THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who attended! I must admit I didn’t expect the room to start filling up almost 30 minutes in advance, nor did I expect it to be that packed!
(Sorry about the heat, we had some aircon issues in that one room)
The panel consisted of BL as a genre, the history of BL as well as how it relates to society and popular culture, homosexuality in Japanese history and art, critique and conflict. I really pushed the borders time-wise, and even had to cut large portions of my script in order to have time for it all!
Even now, I’m sitting here festering in my own annoyance about having forgotten to talk about the differences in Japanese and Western Fujoshi-culture…. Somehow, I completely skipped it, even though it was right there on the boad.. sigh. Next time!
I also really wanted to take a photo of the crowd – but forgot my camera at the sound table. Curses!

I also made a grand announcement right at the start of the panel:

LOVE ADDICT will be released MID-OCTOBER! The specific date will be revealed as soon as Outland and I have scheduled a good date for a release signing!
I’m so excited! Because of Torucon, I’ve had very little time to finish up what was left to do in the proofing process, but now we’re finally at the goal line!

Torucon itsef was of course also immensely fun! I’m so proud of everyone in the crew, for continuing to make this event greater and greater each year!
Thanks to all the lovely feedback from readers I met at the panel and otherwise at the con itself, and for all the lovely messages you guys gave me!
I was saving ‘senpai noticed you’ cards for you all, but someone stole them.

Another thing I want to address which was amazing this year was the amount of male crossplayers – admittedly, a large minority in the convention crowd, but all the more each and every one of them were impressive, serious and great! Each and every one of you made me smile, and though I had no time to give out cards to all of you, if you’re reading this: You’re my hero!

I love that we’ve come to a point where boys are seriously crossplaying, solely for the sake of loving a character, wanting to challenge themselves in terms of new outfits, looks and styles, and wearing it all with their backs straight and a smile on their faces! THIS is progress, and I’m loving it!

Thanks for a great weekend!
See you in October!

Updates, and Torucon 2014!

Wo~w, it’s been a while, hasn’t it?
I don’t really think I am all that cut out for blogger life. On the other hand, not much has happened that has been worth writing about and no one reads this anyway.

Since last time,  I have passed all of my exams, and gotten a year older. Slowly starting to get my life back – except that the long, lazy days of reading books and manga in the sun have not exactly been presenting themselves on a silver platter. Part of the reason is of course that ‘summer’ in Trondheim means buckets and buckets of rain, and ice cold wind….. And then there’s the fact that I’m working my butt off, preparing for all kinds of things.

For one, I am marathoning anime series  – kind of grateful for the rain in that sense tbh. Partially because I’m lagging behind on everything and there’s so much I’ve wanted to see, but also because there’s a quiz to make.

Love Addict is currently in it’s final stage of editing – yes, I’ve said that before, I know. This time though, we’re almost there. All that remains now is to proof the book one last time and set a release date. I will also be making an announcement about FREE COPIES at some point in the near future, so stay tuned.
LA STAMPED WIP
Then there’s Torucon. As many of you know, I am one of the con-arranges behind this convention here in Trondheim, and much of my life is thereby vowed to meetings, organizing and everything that goes into arranging a con.

I also made an announcement over on Facebook and Tumblr yesterday:

In addition to helping with the arrangement of the con itself, I have also been asked to do a panel on Yaoi/BL! I haven’t done one since Kaplah last year, so I’m really excited for it.

I don’t have the full scope yet, but as of right now, I can say that the panel will be on Day 2 of Torucon, Sunday 10th of August. As more of the practical information becomes clear, I’ll make sure to update everyone on it.

The panel itself is titled “Yaoi 801”, and will be an introduction to BL as a genre, looking at how it’s evolved, and some of it’s aspects, as well as comparing BL in popular culture with attitudes in real life. Mind you, this might be subject to change as I haven’t written the actual presentation yet, and I also want to make some kind of blast about Love Addict while I have the chance.

I am also very much open for suggestions, so if there’s anything anyone wants me to talk about at the panel, please feel free to let me know!

I will be back with more information shortly, in regards to both Love Addict and Yaoi 801. Until then, I hope you’re all enjoying summer!

40 hours of awesome!

So last weekend I attended Kaplah as a guest, and I also had the privilege of visiting Outland Kirkegata for a sign-session!

To be honest, the weekend was quite stressful, as we only spent about 40 hours in Oslo, and we almost missed the flight down there because we left 30 minutes too late and there was a queue from hell on the way to the airport. Miraculously, we made it to the gate in time, and landed safely in Oslo that night.
Then on Saturday, after being disappointed by how there was no bacon at the hotel buffet (yes I know I keep whining about this, but it’s the best part of any hotel stay!!) we went down to Outland.
Although not a whole lot of people could make it to the signing, I had a lot of fun while I was there! And it was so much fun meeting those of you who showed up to have your books signed, and stuck around to talk with me for a while. Thank you~♥

I want to thank the Outland staff for taking such good care of me, and making it such an enjoyable experience! Thank you so much for the fantastic set-up as I walked in as well!

While I was there, I had to meet pretty much everyone I know in the city, plus new people that my friends brought as well. So even though not a lot of people showed up, I was surrounded by all these amazing people, and it was just great.
It was especially great to see friends who I literally haven’t seen in years!

Afterwards I dragged part of my crazy ensemble over to Filmens Hus, for Kaplah. We were running a little late, not helped by the marathon happening in the streets, so we missed the opening show, but we still got to see the Q&A with Nordic Garrison, mingled a little, caught the Tolkien panel and then hung around for a bit before the Yaoi%Yuri panel started.
To be honest, I was very nervous about the works. Not because I worried about the panel in itself, but more because I had yet to meet my partner, and we didn’t really know how the panel would work out – if we were to discuss with each other, with an MC or the audience. But as soon as we shook hands, we just got along brilliantly and it turned out we had the same opinions and concerns. So we just got along swimmingly, and the panel turned out to be such a fun experience!

Both Eirik and I agreed that we should do this more often, and I’d definitely like to attend more panels like these in the future. It was so much fun, and very interesting to discuss with an audience and Eirik about various concerns and traits of both “genres”. If we hadn’t run out of time, I’m sure we’d be sitting there all night! Ahaha~

Thank you so much to everyone who attended the panel and asked questions and to those who joined us for the discussion after the panel had ended.

I also want to give a quick mention to the few, but awesome cosplayers who were there! I didn’t get to take a lot of photos myself, but everyone was amazing! Congrats to everyone who received prizes!

Although Kaplah lasted into the wee hours, we decided to call it a night after the cosplay winners had been announced. My friends and I were all tired, and we had our flight to think about the following morning, so we packed up nad left around 11.
A rather funny episode followed as we were walking back to the hotel along with one of my friends:

We were standing at a street light, waiting to cross when someone grabbed my shoulder from behind. I get a lot of attention because of my hair, so I’m used to (although I find it extremely unpleasant) drunk people seeking me out if I go out at night and such, so at first I assumed this was the case, but then I looked up into the face of the journalist from BLIKK who interviewed me at Aicon X-2! Such a surprise!
But a pleasant one at that! (´∇`) He said he’d contact me, so let’s see where this leads~

It was a fun experience in any case! hahah~

All in all, it was a highly successful but kind of tiring trip. And the flight home was kind of atrocious. But we made it back alive, had Chinese for dinner and got to enjoy our Sunday.

So yeah. I had tons of fun, and I’m so glad I was allowed to attend both of these events.
Thanks to everyone who made the weekend such an epic one!

Also fun fact: I didn’t have time to buy anything but food in Oslo, and felt super proud of myself. But then I got home and ordered one grand worth of manga online…. Eh. Σ(^∀^;)

Anyway, have some photos!

“Look professional!”
Uh. All I can do is apologize for how bad this photo is, I seem to have murdered my camera.
We were going for a cool expert-kind of look, but it looks like some cheesy movie poster… Σ(^∀^;)

Well then, enjoy your Friday everyone! And hopefully I’ll see some of you at FCBD tomorrow!

Off to the Capital!

This really is a sad excuse for a blog. My apologies for never updating this thing. Although, I’m sure you get enough of me on all the other sites I spam daily.
As usual, I was intending to post this blog way earlier, but between studying for exams, studying in general, working and trying to have a life, time just didn’t stretch far enough. However, I’m sure you all know that I’ll be in Oslo tomorrow?
I was invited by Kaplah to attend their panel on yaoi and yuri, more specifically the influence of BL and yuri on modern day society, in political, commercial and social situations.
Because I was working on my notes for my mystery exams, I ended up falling behind on everything, and although I do consider myself somewhat an “expert” on BL, my thoughts are very unstructured, so I had to sit down properly and read up on terms, history etc to form a proper text I can refer to during the panel. Honestly, I almost wrote another novel, and I’m sure I can write even more, but the panel is only an hour long, and as of right now, I don’t know how it’ll be structured.
Being a control freak, that makes me slightly nervous. I tend to ramble, so I hope I can keep my cool. Eh. Σ(^∀^;)

Right now my biggest concern is something quite mundane: Clothes. What to wear…?
As many might be aware of, Trondheim still isn’t over winter, and especially in the part of the city where I live we’re still snowed in, more or less. Spring is coming, but very slowly, and yesterday during history class, we had a quick hailstorm. So naturally I have no idea what to wear in what is supposedly a warmer climate. Moreover, as I didn’t have the time to think of cosplay this time around, I kinda want to go all-out visual and have fun with it. But ugh. That wasn’t my point though… I think? I don’t know what to wear on the plane either. I just realize my shirt’s full of metal. I’ll have to change.
Not that it matters. I’ll be indoors all day.  The reason I’m getting into this discussion with myself over my wardrobe though has to do with how I apparently didn’t do any laundry while studying, how all my pantyhose are ripped – and by the way, when they’re made out of such  a fragile material it tears just by wearing it, who decided that placing a piece of cardboard down one leg, which you have to gently wriggle out and most likely tear the thing before you’ve even tried it on, was a good idea?! Packing would be much easier if I didn’t have to go through my drawers and decide which pieces are whole and not. *sigh*

What is this blog entry? I’m so sorry.

I’m a bit nervous regarding tomorrow, as I know there’s a lot of things going on in Oslo. Kaplah doesn’t start until four, but there’s another cosplay event being held about the same time as my signing at outland, so I hope people can still make it!

I’ll be flying in tonight, and coming back home Sunday morning. Somehow I’m still hoping to get time to hang with my friends in Oslo though. How will this even compute? OTL Relaxation is for the weak!

Anyway, if you want to meet me tomorrow, here’s my schedule:

I’ll be at Outland Kirkegata signing books from 13:00-15.30 tomorrow
Kaplah opens at 16:00. Age limit: 18. Tickets can be purchased at the door, but cash only! Bring ID.
The Yaoi/Yuri panel starts at 19:00 in the room called “Lillebil”.

Although I’m kind of nervous about the whole thing, it’s going to be so much fun, and I can’t wait to see everyone! Remember to bring your books if you’d like me to sign them!

Well then, back to packing.

Announcement: Jaded release

Thank you so much to everyone who have pre-ordered, reviewed and expressed their excitement for Jaded’s release.
You know, I’ve been dying to reveal the release-plans, but they kept being pushed back due to various events, such as the editing process dragging on, and the shipments taking longer than expected. My originally intended date was November 10th; Yuuki’s birthday.
Then I kept pushing it back Saturday by Saturday. In the end, we were finally able to get everything ready in time for December 1st. It’s way later than I had hoped, but better late than never!
I am thrilled to announce the official release date!

On December 1st “Jaded” will be released simultaneously both at Outland and in my webstore. Because the online price tends to be a bit steep due to the publishing costs, I’ve decided to give a special discount for the release weekend only! If you live abroad, I particularily reccomend buying “Jaded” from my webstore on December 1st or 2nd. Link will be provided as soon as I’ve authorized the sales.
Amazon sales will be available about a week later, aprroximately on the 7th of December, once Amazon have updated their listings.

Finally, the big announcement: As you might’ve heard already, I will be at Outland Trondheim from noon and throughout opening hours on Saturday December 1st!
Come by and say hi! And of course, get a signed copy of Jaded! If you wish, you may also bring your copy of “SNOW” if you would like to have that signed as well!
I will be looking forward to seeing you there, and most of all to see your shoulders drop and (hopefully) excitement as you receive your copies!
There’s a limited stock though, so I hope we’ll have enough copies for everyone!

As for those outside of Trondheim: Outland ordered copies for their stores accross the country, which should be available from December 1st as well! Again, stocks might be limited, so make sure to encourage them to order more! (*´∀`)アハハン♪

I can’t believe this is finally happening. I’m nervous, but also so excited. I hope you’re all looking forward to getting your hands on Jaded as well; and I hope you will enjoy it.

By the way, did you see the “trailer”? Σ(^∀^;)
My friend laughed and told me it was the first time he’d seen a trailer for a novel, wondering if my ego was sky-rocketing!
Honestly, what happened was that I had no idea how to get a proper impact when finally announcing the release-date, and after so many setbacks, I wanted it to be special. In the end, I had been playing with the thought of making a short promo video for it, and we decided to just go for it, because why the heck not?

Have a great weekend everyone! Only one week left!

Congratulations!

*phew*
I finally got the time to draw a winner of the contest. I had a hard time finding out which would be the most fair way to choose the winning review; whether I wanted to put more weight on it being well-written or written from the heart.
In the end, I decided to pick the reviews that spoke to me the most; by speaking about the characters as if they were real people, or even friends. This is how I myself think of them, and in the end I ended up liking the reviews that mentioned this the most. Then I had my dear impartial webadmin draw one of these “finalists”, to make sure it was a fair selection.

Without further ado; congratulations to Martine Hana Løken aka Winona Flammery!
Send me an e-mail with your address, and I’ll ship out your copy of Jaded next week!

I had such a good time reading all of your reviews, and believe me when I say that picking a winner was immensely difficult. If I could, I’d give you all free copies… but that would be bad for business! Σ(^∀^;)
Thanks to everyone who participated. I honestly enjoyed reading these very much ♥

Would you like a signed copy of Jaded?

On Wednesday I posted the following status on Facebook:

I was completely overwhelmed by the response, so of course I’m throwing the contest!

I’ve got ONE copy up for grabs for the time being, which will be signed and shipped out by me personally.
The contest will last from 16th of November (today) until Wednesday the 21st at midnight (GMT+1)

Here’s what you’ve got to do:
It doesn’t matter if you live in Norway, Europe, the US or anywhere else, you can still join the contest.
If you have a blog, tumblr or youtube-account, that’s all you need. What I want you to do is take a few mimutes to make a review on SNOW – (try not to spoil people though ^-^”) and post the link to your review in the comments below this post.
Reviews can be in Norwegian or English, that’s up to you! If you’ve already written one in the past, you may link me to that one as well.

The winner will be announced as soon as I’ve read all of the reviews. And the signed copy will be shipped out in time for the release date (which will be announced really soon).

That doesn’t sound too hard, does it? Good luck everyone! I’ll be waiting to see your entries!

Trick or Treat~

Happy November 2nd! Happy NaNoWriMo! Happy belated birthday to Aki. And thanks to everyone who showed so much love for him yesterday >w<
Like I’ve said a million times, this week has been insane. Thankfully, the test yesterday went well against all odds, and although I encountered some unexpected suckiness, I’m doing okay again now. Started writing yesterday. It felt unfamiliar, but I know the characters well, so I find comfort in that. I’ll write more about NaNo at a later time, since this post was originally intended for Monday. I have NO time for anything, so bear with me.

I went to Outland’s Halloween event on Saturday together with my beautiful people, and hung out all day. I was a little disappointed by the lack of cosplayers this year compared to earlier years, but we still had a good time.
I just want to take a moment to say how much I appreciated talking to some of you all day! I’m sorry I left so suddenly as we! Things got a bit hectic at the end there!
If I have one regret, it is that we didn’t get to take any proper photos. I’ve wanted to do this cosplay for about 10 years, since before I started cosplaying, but then we had no proper camera. Moreover, with the 40 cm of snow that came out of nowhere, we wouldn’t have been able to get any good shots anyway.
So I guess I’ll get a proper shin about nine months…..*sigh*
For now, you may have some of the (bad) snapshots taken throughout the day. (If you’re in a photo and want it taken down, or want to use them anywhere, please contact me)

And then…there was me~

Kiriyama approves!

Photobombed!

And then finally, I’m taking the liberty of borrowing Tori’s video, which we more or less volunteered to be in!
Brace yourselves for a first, as Kiriyama Kazuo does “the laugh” by popular demand. ギャハハハ(≧▽≦)

Vlog#1 from Tori Løvø on Vimeo.

Ohohoo~ So yeah. It was really fun, and I was so excited to be Kazuo for a day! >w<
Now I’ll get my act together and do some wordsprints! I overslept today as a result of writing until two thirty last night, so I need to get on top of things!
Hopefully I won’t die over the weekend, and I’ll be able to keep a somewhat social life even though it’s November.

The long awaited Torucon post

At this time last Saturday, I was overwhelmed by the awesome that was Torucon, and we were only in our second hour of the day. In total, I spent 12 hours at ISAK, as one of the arrangers of what has come to be known as Norway’s fiercest con – with the most (Gangnam) style. (´▽`*)アハハ
Of course, I’m not biased at all….Σ(^∀^;) Since March, it’s been some long, quickly-passing months full of stress, excitement, anticipation, worry and something I will call utter-stokedness, no matter how corny that sounds. After the security meeting, two days in advance, I thought I’d be dead by Saturday morning, but upon seeing the finished opening video on Friday afternoon, and seeing it all coming together during the final push on Friday, during the rigging I was bubbling with excitement and energy. The day itself did NOT disappoint. It was honestly one of the most awesome things I’ve ever taken part in, and I want to thank everyone who attanded, everyone in the crew, all of the guests, and our sponsors.
I absolutely cannot wait until next year, and I hope I’ll see even more of you there!

Now for the photo avalanche. Please don’t use any of these without consulting with the photographers themselves:

Øyvind Krogsrud, the winner of first place! Representing Norway in NCC 2013!

It was just such an amazing day, filled with incredible cosplayers, epic amounts of fun and there just aren’t enough words to explain… If you’re not convinced of the awesome yet, I have some videos to prove it:

Ending it all in style:

It’s been a week, and I’m still dreaming about Torucon every night! Aah, I wanna go back~
I’m considering making it mandatory for all my readers to attend every year. Ohohoho~ (ノ∀`)

Well then, I could ramble forever, but I’ll stop this here. Have a good Saturday everyone!
I think I might upload a drabble later, so keep your eyes peeled!
